LOOK | SPORTS: Over P30T at stake in 1st Rey Gealon chessfest

Over P30,000 in cash prize will be given away to the winners of the 1st Councilor Rey Gealon Open Chess Tournament set for September 10 at the Cebu Chess Club located at the fourth level of Robinsons Galleria Cebu.

The champion of the 9-round Swiss system tournament organized by Cebu City councilor Atty. Rey Gealon in partnership with the Cebu Executives and Professionals Chess Association (CEPCA) headed by its longtime president Engr. Jerry Maratas and sanctioned by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) will take home P8,000.

The second to fifth placers will pocket P5,000, P3,000, P2,000, and P1,000, respectively. The 6th-10th will receive P700, while the 11th-15th will get P500 apiece.

There will also be incentives for the best performers in their respective categories: P1,000 and P500 for the top two collegiate (Under 20) and high school (Under 16) players, and P500 each for the top Cepcan (A and B, female, senior, and kiddie U10 participants.

Entry fee is pegged at P150 for kiddie/lady/Cepcan/senior/PWD and P250 for regular players.
