As the island basked in the warm glow of the late summer sun, a sense of unity and excitement permeated the air. August 26, 2023, @ 9:00 AM, marked a pivotal day for our close-knit island community – the day we came together to celebrate our shared love for chess and kickstart the spirit of togetherness before the School Year 2023-2024 began.

The chess tournament, which epitomized community involvement at its finest, left an indelible mark on our hearts, igniting a deeper understanding of the power of collective effort and the bonds that tie us together. It became clear that this endeavor was more than just a chess tournament; it was an opportunity to bring people together, regardless of age or background, and foster a sense of belonging.

As the tournament day drew near, a sense of both excitement and nervousness settled in. The island chess tournament not only solidified our appreciation to sponsors, NM Gerald Ferriol NT and Jessie Villasin, and for the importance of community engagement but also provided a template for how small actions can create ripples of change.
